This is an ascending/descending exercise I warm up with sometimes, and if you name the notes as you go its great to get them in the noodle.

Its just the major scale (starting here with F# and descending on the A scale) but it gets you thinking and good for using all 4 fretting fingers correctly.

G) -------------------2-1----------- ------------------3-2---------------
D) ------------1-3-4----4-2-------- -----------2-4-5-----5-3----------
A) -----1-2-4---------------5-4-2 ----2-3-5 ----------------6-5-3---
E) 2-4-----------------------------5- 3-5-------------------------------6-

G) ------------------4-3------------- -----------------5-4--------------
D) -----------3-5-6----6-4--------- -----------4-6-7---7-5----------
A) ----3-4-6---------------7-6-4--- ----4-5-7--------------8-7-5---
E) 4-6-----------------------------7- 5-7----------------------------8-

Just work your way up the neck until boredom strikes.
