The Cedar is really nice to work with and is very light for a hardwood. I am sure this bass will be sub 6lb.

90% there

The cedar is good to work with the bandsaw and planer but not the best of woods to finish as it is rather 'fluffy' due to its cell structure and low density. Perseverance and oil always works !!!

Really love the look of that!

The only thing I am unsure about is the locking jack..particularly being on the front.

+1 to all of the above. I've no problem with locking jacks - quite like them in fact - but not front mounted.

Your worlshop must have smelt lovely when you were cutting that cedar. That's the best bit about using cedar rather than pine for arrow shafts - when they break you can sniff them!

Very cool looking bass.

What sort of strings do you use for short scale double ball end?

Not keen on locking jacks - I prefer feeding the lead through the strap!

Any particular reason ? I have built lots of basses with a front Neutrik jack and if it is good enough for Erno Zwaan then its good enough for me

Sniffing shafts eh ? you'll get locked up for that... It does indeed smell really nice but not as good as European Oak...

Any ! the ball end goes in a retainer on the neck end and the string threads through a hole in the tuner shaft . That is the reason I use these tuner / bridge units. They are a little clunky and rather heavy but you can use any strings with them (up to 100s) so no messin with double ball ends or finding specialist short scale strings...

not another ? OK general consensus is that locking jacks are universally hated especially on the front of a bass.....

Thanks for the input guys.....

Two reasons, I don't like locking jacks in general, partly that's because I'm daft and always forget they are locking....

Second reason is aesthetics. They were designed to be mounted on a panel and look like it....

It's not a 'hate' thing though, just a personal preference...

Done that myself and pulled an amp across the floor

I do however admire the engineering in them and have never had a problem with one. I do wish they would make the baseplate wider as there is hardly any room for the screws and generally when mounting them in wood the screws need to be angled slightly
