Default About Mailloux Basses

Hi Guys, I'd like to thank the finnbass community for making me feel so welcome so soon and especially Steve for generously offering this forum for me.

A bit about me. I grew up in Montreal, Canada (Quebec really ) and have been a lifelong woodworker. I studied a year of carpentry and a year of cabinet making back in high school ('86-'87) and bought my first two books on guitar making back then. One shall remain nameless. The second one was Melvyn Hiscock's "Make Your Own Electric Guitar" an absolutely wonderfull book that made me dream of building. The plan was to start building right thern but life got in the way until '97 when I built a new body for a '74 strat neck I had. I was instantly hooked but again life got in the way until 2003. By that time I was living in Tha Hague, Netherlands with my beautiful Dutch wife. That year I discovered Projectguitar.com and dusted I off Melvyn's and got to work on my first scratch build. Not happy with having something simple built. I also built the neck, the pickups and finished the bass in sunburst. I learned a lot that year on how not to build a bass.

Since that time bass building has occupied all my thoughts day in and day out, much to the frustration of my wife at times In 2005 I migrated to Brisbane, Australia where I'm based now. I started building customs for customers in 2006 and 2009 marked the start of Mailloux Basses as a "real" business with the launch of the website and the first Guitar Show I attended as a builder (and filing out all that legal stuff governements have a tendency to throw in your face).

I'll populate this new forum with older build threads and pics to show you guys some of my work after work tonight, that would be tomorrow morning for most of you

I'm always happy to promote the work of people building stuff for the bass community, especially if it involves lots of pictures of basses. It's even better when this involves a global aspect

Stick your website URL into your signature, that way it will appear in every post you make...you also might want to add your forum address...there's nothing like a bit of cross fertilisation....

I really look forward to seeing more of your work

I'm in love with that 6 string fretless which is strange as I don't really do fretless and dont like 6 stringers!

Particularly liked the pic of the electrics compartment with separate routed battery space. Looks very neat.

I know Melv fairly well - he's an incredibly witty guy and great company. He's also a brilliant pilot and is the "voice on the PA system" explaining what's happening at many UK and European airshows. I've also played with him once or twice and he's a scary good guitar player too.

Welcome to Finnbass. Your basses look very interesting.

Some very beautiful work going on there.

Seriously how does anyone expect a man to be able to save when certain people around here keep inviting such great builders to join the forum.
