Hmm nice. A simple little clean booster is what you need Ken. That's no more than a couple of quids worth of components - mainly because of the price of jack sockets.

That would certainly be one way round the issue, but TBH if I already had one of those I wouldn't have bought a USB-based device in the first place. I could have just plugged a line-level booster/buffer device into the analogue line input on the Mac!

Ken if you install Windows 7 you can control the input volume. Another solution would be for you to install Ubuntu Studio, I'm using it and it has tons of software the best of them is Ardour which is pretty much like Cubase, Logic or any other DAW.

You can use Audacity too.
